Don’t expect to see any buxom beauty queens in bikinis like this at Miss World 2013!
Miss World organizers say Indonesian authorities have banned two-piece swimsuits, a sensitive subject for the highly conservative Muslim nation. Instead, the contestants will be competing in one-piece suits with sarongs. Read more about it in this Fox News article…
Cory Quirino, National Director for Miss World Philippines says, “This is to be expected because Indonesia is a Muslim country. But it will not affect how the Philippines chooses it’s winner. We will still have the same swimsuit competition with contestants in bikinis, but as you know we always do it tastefully.”
She adds, “We still have to choose a stand-out beauty with a great body because even if contestants will be wearing a one-piece suit with a sarong in Indonesia, you can still tell if they are well-toned or not. Besides, there might be a closed-door judging, who knows? If the rules allow that then the Philippine representative has to be really fit.”
At the moment, Cory Quirino is busy with last minute preps for the Miss World Philippines 2013, the winner of which will be crowned in late August. “We don’t have much time for training the winner. Just one week and then she needs to fly to Indonesia for the Miss World 2013 in September.”
Does this mean that polished girls with extensive training are going to have an edge in the pageant? Cory Quirino says, “well, I’d love to have a polished winner, it will make training much easier. But if you are a newbie, don’t be afraid. You can still win. We need a stand-out beauty with a strong desire to win. If that describes you, then please go download an application form on the Miss World Philippines official website and send it in!”
So far, Cory says there will be at least one big pre-screening in a Metro Manila mall with the final screening to be held on July 30, 2013. She promises to cast a wider net next year to include Filipina contestants from the USA, Canada and Europe.
