Sorry dear reader for this late update. Got busy with work then with cleaning house over the Holy Week break. I also had to take care of family things. In spite of it’s lateness, I hope you still appreciate this post…
Congratulations to the top 3 winners of Miss Philippines Earth 2014′s Trash to Class Fashion competition held at Patio Victoria in Intramuros last April 9, 2014! I had the honor of being one of the critic judges, thanks to MPE for the invite. I was instructed to be candid about my comments on the outfit but it was hard to nitpick; I ended up praising almost every outfit and girl that came out on stage. I’m now pinching myself for not being more forthcoming, but I promise to be tougher next time, aahaha!
Anyway, I also had a blast with my two co-judges – Eric Pineda and Nat Manilag who helped me along since it was my first time to be a critic judge in a fashion-based competition involving waste or recycled materials.
All three girls above garnered high scores from me. I liked their outfits and felt that they all fit into the eco-theme of Miss Philippines Earth and yet at the same time were elegant looking. As for catwalk skills, all three girls did a stunning job, Diane Querrer in particular looked every inch the regal queen.

Lets look at each of the Top 3 outfits:
BRONZE – Bianca Paz of Gapan City
Bianca Paz gave us some Hollywood glamor when she stepped out in a cocktail dress made out of lambat (fishnets) and styrofoam plates. Loved the way the corset part made her cleavage go boom! Five over five tiaras!
Bianca is a pageant veteran with a stint in Bb. Pilipinas 2009. She also won 3rd Princess twice in Miss World Philippines, first in 2011 and then again in 2013. This time around in Miss Philippines Earth, I think she has a big chance of fulfilling her dream of becoming a national crown winner.

SILVER – Jamie Herrell of Cebu City
Unlike the other two winning Trash to Class outfits, it’s easy to tell what this one is made of! Jamie Herrell is wearing silvery plastic plates with a few plastic spoons poking out. It is something I imagine Lady Gaga wearing to someone’s kiddie party. This eco-dress just proves that keeping things simple and straightforward can win you a medal.
The lovely Jamie, if you don’t know yet, was a contestant in Miss Resorts World Manila 2013.

GOLD – Diane Querrer of Tanauan City
Looking at this picture you would never guess that Diane Querrer, who is representing Tanauan City, is wearing the very same things clogging our drainage systems in Metro Manila. White plastic bags, straws, kulambo and defective rubber mats! But even more astounding than that is Diane’s quick rebound from the embarrassing disqualification she had to face at another pageant several weeks ago. Read more about it here.
IMHO, Diane did the right thing and moved on fast. This is her second attempt, btw, at Miss Philippines Earth. She was a contestant in the year 2011.
